The Spanish perfume manufacturer has launched a new biodegradable caps baptized Vernovacaps. Iberchem’s encapsulation technology is the second to offer a biodegradable solution. According to the company, however, it is the only one whose biodegradability matches the standard Easily biodegradable of the OECD (biodegradability of more than 60% in 28 days, with continuous decomposition thereafter).
Open to all Iberchem customers worldwide, this new encapsulation technology offers at least 60% biobased materials. Due to their high level of biodegradability, Vernovacaps comply with the 2022 ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) proposed legislation on microplastics and the ban on non-biodegradable microplastics in 2027.
” Our perfume technology department works closely with Iberchem perfumes to present new biodegradable capsules that meet our customers’ expectations in terms of scent and performance. explained Michael White, Fragrance Technology Director of Iberchem. ” Our new Vernovacaps offer strong and robust flavors unaffected by the encapsulation process “.
According to Iberchem, this new technology offers the same performance as the traditional NeoCaps encapsulation technology.
The first variant of Vernovacaps was formulated for fabric softeners but the technology will later be extended to other product categories such as cosmeticssaid Iberchem.
Last year, the French perfume manufacturer Sozio launched a new natural and COSMOS-certified encapsulation technology for skincare called Cosmocaps. This alternative to synthetic microcapsules aims to eliminate micro-plastics from formulations while providing cosmetic benefits.
